PhraseDay — Daily Listening Practice
PhraseDay is designed with your privacy in mind. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and what is stored.
PhraseDay does not collect any personal data, usage analytics, tracking information, or cookies. The app does not require an account or any form of registration. The only data transmitted externally is described in the "Pronunciation Assessment" section below, and only occurs with your explicit consent.
PhraseDay includes an optional pronunciation practice feature that uses a third-party AI service to evaluate your speech. Before using this feature for the first time, the app asks for your explicit consent. You can revoke this consent at any time in the app's Settings.
What data is sent
Who receives your data
Your voice recording and the reference text are sent to Microsoft Azure Speech Services through our secure proxy server hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Microsoft processes the audio solely to generate pronunciation scores (accuracy, fluency, completeness, and prosody) and returns the results to the app. No other third party receives this data.
How data is used
The data is used exclusively to evaluate your pronunciation and provide real-time feedback. The results are displayed to you and saved only on your device. No personal identifiers, account information, or device identifiers are included in the request.
Data retention
Audio recordings are processed in real time and are not stored by Microsoft Azure, Cloudflare, or BuzziSoftware. Once the pronunciation assessment is complete, the audio is discarded. Microsoft Azure Speech Services processes data in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement and provides equivalent data protection.
PhraseDay uses Firebase (Firestore and Storage) to deliver daily phrases and audio content to the app. No personal information is sent to or stored on these servers. The app only downloads phrase content and audio files — it does not upload any user data.
Your attempt history, streak data, and progress are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. This data never leaves your device and is not shared with BuzziSoftware or any third party. Audio files are cached locally and automatically cleaned up after 3 days.
PhraseDay offers optional in-app subscriptions managed entirely through Apple's StoreKit. All payment processing and subscription management is handled by Apple. BuzziSoftware does not have access to your payment information.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
